Measuring biological exposure and effect indicators (biological exposure monitoring or BEM) in urine and blood samples is one of the most important elements of the tests we carry out at workplaces. Eurofins Analytical Services Hungary Ltd. offers its accredited testing laboratory services (in line with the requirements of Decree 5/2020 (II. 6.) ITM) primarily to employers, occupational health physicians, occupational health service providers and private individuals.
A person employed in organised work (worker), or one present in the area affected by work, may be exposed to impacts of hazardous substances and mixtures. To help occupational health physicians decide whether the hazardous effects of a particular job are causing excessive stress to workers the Decree on the protection of the health and safety of workers exposed to chemical risks provides for the testing of hazardous substances in the air at the workplace and, in the case of occupational chemical exposure, of biological exposure and effect indicators.
- Biological exposure indicator: the concentration of a chemical or metabolite in a biological (urine or blood) sample.
- Biological performance indicator: a biochemical parameter showing the adverse effects of a chemical substance or its metabolite on the human body
- Exposure: the exposure of a worker to hazardous substances at the workplace
- Exposure time: the time spent by a worker in a workplace contaminated by a chemical substance, expressed in hours, days, weeks, per day, week and year
